2020 Virtual Spring SWE Welcome

On Sunday, April 19th, 2020, the Society of Women Engineers hosted our annual Spring SWE Welcome. This year our event was presented virtually via a Zoom webinar from 10am - 12pm. This event is geared towards female students who have been conditionally-admitted to Cal Poly in the Fall, either as a first-time freshman or transfer student. During the event, the admitted students heard from six of our SWE officers and the Dean of Engineering, Dr. Amy Fleischer. First, we presented an overview of CPSWE and all of the opportunities we have for members to get involved, network, and volunteer. Next, we presented about what it means to be a woman in engineering and how to boost your confidence in a male-dominated field. Finally, we presented about leadership styles and how to leverage your leadership skills within clubs and other areas of life. In between each section of our presentation, we answered many questions from the participants. Questions ranged from asking what college classes are like to asking how to get involved in SWE freshman year. This was a very successful event as we reached out to over 100 admitted students and got them excited about Cal Poly and SWE. We hope to see many of them in the Fall!
